Message from the President, Lindsay A. Nelson, CPA
I am honored and privileged to be serving as President of the Minnesota Association of Public Accountants (MAPA) for 2010/2011 in the organization’s 70th year of service to accounting and tax professionals throughout Minnesota. I would not be here today but for the strength of character of the members I consider “mentors” who stood by me to encourage and guide me. Thank you all. You know who you are.
Thank you Ellen Stebbins, for paving the way so that I may continue the actions we have begun under your leadership to streamline the operational efficiency of the Association at the Board level and to better react to changing needs of our members. Specifically, by providing innovative continuing education that will be relevant to the membership and responding to legislative concerns that will affect us all in our practices.
New initiatives have been presented from IRS and Minnesota Department of Revenue regarding individual and firm rights to practice tax preparation of all types. With these new initiatives comes the opportunity for MAPA to step up and be a resource for those individuals and firms desiring education and guidance in professional conduct and best practice standards that will help them stand out as leaders.
I am looking forward to working with the MAPA board and volunteers (participants at the committee level) that wish to be a part of the challenging times ahead. It is and has always been enjoyable to work with people from across the state at the MAPA leadership level. The friendships and networking opportunities garnered from participation in MAPA have proven to me to be “priceless.” The small cost of membership has returned to me manyfold — economically, professionally and socially. All members have the opportunity to support, volunteer, and be active in the process, by simply putting forward, by email or a telephone call, a thought or idea that could prove beneficial and perhaps critical to the success of MAPA’s mission.
Thank you all at Ewald Consulting, our management firm, for your support and guidance through the administration of MAPA. John, Bonnie and all who have worked with MAPA over the years are invaluable to the Association. John Arlandson, Executive Director for MAPA, will retire at the end of 2010. John has “cared” for us for many years and has “guided” us well. John, saying thank you seems to be an understatement for all you have done. With John’s departure, comes our new Executive Director Eric Ewald. I am looking forward to getting to know Eric and having some fun at John’s (and most likely Eric’s) expense in the transition.
Now let’s roll up our sleeves and start moving forward.
Lindsay A. Nelson, CPA
President
